Things To Know Before Your Next Trip
Make a list--about a week before you leave, make a packing list to be sure you don’t forget anything. Especially remember those chargers and batteries for all the electronic gadgets!
Hydrate before and during your trip (especially on flights) the more pure water you drink, the more you’ll need to make bathroom breaks, an added bonus, since it’s important to not sit for too long. Drink enough pure, clean water that your urine runs clear.
Get up and move, walk whenever you can. If on a road trip, pull over every couple of hours if possible and walk around your vehicle a few times. If you are drinking enough water, you’ll need potty breaks anyway!
Alert your bank & credit card companies that you will be traveling.
If flying, put toiletry essentials and a change of undies in your carryon. You never know when your luggage might get waylaid!
Libraries, Starbucks, McDonalds, & most cafes/coffee shops have free wifi. I use them all the time!
Wear sunscreen, even inside your vehicle the UV rays can get to you.
Carry healthy snacks. A small insulated lunch bag filled with fresh fruits and veggies cut up into bite size pieces, some nut butter or hummus for dipping, protein bars & easy shakes. Check out a couple of ideas HERE.
Sleep, your body needs rest and time to adjust to new environments, activity levels, even long hours of driving!
Do breathing exercises. You can do 5 minutes of deep, cleansing breaths anywhere, anytime.
Eat breakfast before you head out. Fueling your body first thing in the morning for a day of activity is extremely important. Even if you just make instant oatmeal with hot water in your hotel room and add some fresh fruit! Or use a shaker bottle with water and protein powder. HERE is the one I use.
Cut out the sugar and limit alcohol, especially the sweet drinks.
Eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies, It can be difficult to eat a healthy balanced meal with all the essential phytonutrients when traveling. HERE is a great way to bridge that gap.
Eat fresh and local as much as possible. Eating fast food, airline food, quick stop mini market food is unhealthy in the best of times. While traveling, it will only make you feel sluggish, bloated, tired...especially if you are sitting a lot.
Hope these tips help you get a better idea of how to optimize your trips! In my next blog post, I’ll give some specifics on what I do while traveling around the US in my airstream to stay as healthy as I can.
